Goa Forward Party leader Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monseratte on Monday said that he would resign from the GFP only after the Election Commission of India issues notifications as regards the by-election in Panaji.

The Panaji constituency has been vacant after the demise of its MLA Manohar Parrikar on March 17.

Monseratte had already stated that he did not want to embarrass GFP president Vijai Sardesai by contesting as the particular party’s candidate because the GFP is the alliance partner of the state Bharatiya Janata Party-led government.

Monseratte said that he has already started meeting groups of people from the capital city, mainly to make them aware that he intends to contest the forthcoming by-poll in Panaji.
