KOCHI: As election campaigns gain momentum in Ernakulam, People's Collective - which opposes widening of national highway (NH) 17 - said that they would intensify protests and would even consider boycotting of elections.
The collective has been protesting the move to acquire more land from the people who had already provided land for widening the road between Edappally and Moothakunnam. Hashim Chedampilly, leader of the collective, said that about 3,000 families would be affected by the road-widening activities.
"District core committee of NH Samara Samyuktha Samithi would take a final decision on whether to boycott the candidates fielded by major political parties. It would also consider the option of supporting smaller parties or go for 'none of the above' option (NOTA)," he said.
The collective said that major political parties had ignored their demand.
