Mysterious blast-like noise creates panic among residents of Ambala
Jaskaran Singh | TNN | Mar 25, 2019, 20:58 ISTAMBALA: Panic struck the residents of Ambala Cantonment, Ambala City and nearby villages on Monday morning after a loud blast-like noise rocked the city and residents felt vibrations in their houses due to unknown reasons. The sound of the blast was heard at several kilometers in the villages on the state border of Punjab as well.
However, no untoward incident was reported anywhere and the police officials also heard the blast but they could not come to know about any reason behind the sound and vibrations.
While administration claimed that it sounded something like a sonic boom, no such thing has been confirmed by the officials.
The emergency sirens of some of the vehicles parked in the city areas also went off after the noise.
After hearing the noise, the residents came out of their houses and found a large number of birds flying together.
The district police said the blast was surely heard but no report of any loss or damage has been received.
Several shopkeepers and residents in Ambala said, “We heard a heavy blast-like sound at around 11.15 am and the shutters and windows of our shops and houses vibrated as it happens during an earthquake. But we could not understand the reason behind it.”
Ambala headquarters DSP Sultan Singh said, “We had received multiple calls about the noise of the blast but no damage on the ground has been reported. We have confirmed from all the police stations and no damage of such incident has been reported to us. We would appeal to the residents to beware of the rumours.”
As per sources, there have been heavy exercises of fighter jets and other operations at Air Force Station in Ambala Cantonment which has caused the sonic boom in the area. Sources attempted to confirm the incident from the military officials but no response was received.
