EC seeks report on Kolkata Customs case
TNN | Mar 26, 2019, 05:11 ISTNEW DELHI: BJP on Monday alleged that West Bengal CM and Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee was trying to provoke a constitutional crisis and accused the state police of “threatening” customs officials who tried to check the luggage of two women, including the wife of Banerjee’s nephew and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek, at Kolkata airport.
BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said the state government seemed to be working to protect a family. The CM should tell the people what was being brought in those suitcases that Kolkata police had to “terrorise” customs officials to prevent them from checking, he said.
The Election Commission sought a report on the fracas at the airport, PTI reported from Kolkata.
Abhishek has refuted reports that 2 kg of gold was seized from his wife’s baggage when she landed in the city from Bangkok.
