The former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held a meeting with Congress leaders of Mysuru here on Sunday to discuss the coming Lok Sabha elections.
The meeting was attended by the party’s candidate for Mysuru C.H. Vijayshankar, former Ministers H.C. Mahadevappa and Tanvir Sait, Yathindra, MLA, and M.K. Somashekar, former MLA.
Mr. Vijayshankar is scheduled to file his nomination papers on Monday. A rally will be taken out from the Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where he will file his papers around 2.30 p.m., Congress sources said.
Mr. Siddaramaiah and other Congress leaders are expected to accompany Mr. Vijayshankar.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokesperson A.H. Venkatesh said the party expects the JD(S) to work for the coalition candidate’s victory.
“Both the parties have joined hands to keep the communal BJP at bay. The former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Congress president Rahul Gandhi are also part of the mahaghatabandhan formed at the national level,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mysuru district JD(S) president Narasimhaswamy was hopeful that party leaders and workers of both parties will fall in line once the senior leaders convene meetings at the local level.
