Man found dead in Wyndham Vale backyard, man in custody
A man has been found dead in the backyard of a home in Melbourne's south-west.
Police found the body of a 49-year-old man in the backyard when they arrived at the address after 9pm on Sunday.
Two men, aged 41 and 43, were taken for questioning.
Police took on man back to the property on Monday. He was handcuffed and wearing a blue jumpsuit, and stayed inside for more than an hour, Nine News reports.
Police emerged carrying an evidence bag and took the man away again.
According to earlier, the man had knocked on the door of a home on Mount Eagle Way and allegedly told the female resident he had just bashed her neighbour to death.
"There were a lot of people sitting around here last night and it was mentioned that somebody has knocked on somebody's door and told them that he had bashed somebody," said local Brian Williams.
Other witnesses said the man waited calmly for police to arrive. Officers put paper bags on his hands as he was taken into custody.
One woman, who did not want to be identified, said she was driving past when she saw a man on his knees with his hands behind his back in handcuffs.
"A solid guy, not young, with about five to six police standing around him on Feathertop Drive and Mount Eagle Way," she said.
"A divvy van was to my right in Mount Eagle Way, the back was open as they had another person being put into back of it."
Police are now investigating the circumstances around the death. The two men are assisting police with their inquiries.
The man's death is being treated as suspicious.
