MUMBAI: A 24-year-old youth was killed reportedly after an unidentified BEST bus knocked him down on JVLR on Saturday. Victim Rakesh Patil, a Powai resident, was crossing the road at Milind Nagar when the speeding bus hit him and sped away. Locals who witnessed the incident claimed they could only spot it was a BEST bus, but failed to read the bus number.

The incident occurred around 10.45 am when Patil was returning home from a shopping errand. "We will get the closed-circuit television (CCTV) grabs from the stretch on Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road to locate the bus involved in the incident," said a police officer from Powai police station.

Rakesh's father Nandlal (62) and other family members were in a state of shock. They demanded justice and stern action against the driver. "Rakesh suffered severe head injury. Locals who witnessed the incident said he was flung onto the road," said police.

A case has been registered against the bus driver.
