If it’s Rahul Gandhi, NDA to field a stronger candidate

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Will it be Smrithi Irani against Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad too? Speculations are rife that a senior most leader of the BJP will be taking on Rahul if he decides to contest from Wayanad.
Already discussions have begun between BJP and BDJS to make the contest in Wayanad a serious affair in the event of Rahul becoming a candidate there. The BDJS leadership has been informed about the possibility of BJP taking over the seat. “Definitely, there will be a serious fight in Wayanad if the Congress finalises it. A senior leader from the party will be contesting there then,” said BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai.
“If Rahul comes over here to contest, the central leadership of the party will decide on how the party should take the contest in Wayanad,” he added.
Already there are several names being considered in the party circles if such a situation arises. But the central leadership will be taking the final call since the contest will get national attention.
“Already the talks are on between the BDJS and the BJP to make the contest much stronger in Wayanad if Rahul contests. It will be decided only after an announcement from the AICC. The BDJS has decided to declare their list of candidates on Tuesday before which we expect an announcement from the AICC,” said BJP general secretary J R Padmakumar.
The sudden announcement made by the KPCC leaders that Rahul will be contesting from Wayanad has created a confusion among the BJP leadership in the state. They still believe that the chances of Rahul choosing Wayanad is very remote.
