NEW BEDFORD — Samantha Hourihan of Coyle & Cassidy High School was named female winner of the Dave Cowens Award during the annual Cowens award ceremony on Monday night at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School.

Damien Perry of Bishop Stang was named as the male winner.

Nineteen high schools from southeastern Massachusetts were eligible to nominate one female senior and one male senior basketball player for the award.

Hourihan averaged 11.0 points and 11.8 rebounds per game. She blocked 86 shots and made 88 percent of her free throws.

A four-year starter and two-time Division 3 state finalist, Perry, a guard, this past season averaged 22.5 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals per game, helping take the Spartans to the state championship game. He is the Spartans' career scoring leader.
