Samajwadi Party satraps could land in the soup

New Delhi, The Supreme Court on Monday sought a detailed reply within two weeks from the Central Bureau of Investigation, after hearing a petition filed by a lawyer and Indian National Congress leader, Vishwanath Chaturvedi, seeking to know the status of the probe into the alleged disproportionate assets of Samajwadi Party brass Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav.

A bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, said the court wants to know what happened since the CBI filed a status report saying that it seemed prime facie, a case is made out against the Yadavs.

During the course of the arguments before the apex court, Yadavs’ counsel, C A Sundaram, opposed the plea of Mr Chaturvedi, and submitted to it that it is going to be used politically ahead of the general elections.

After the submissions, the apex court asked the CBI to file its detailed response in two weeks.
