Aston Martin has been toying with the idea of launching an SUV for some time and that is soon going to become a reality. Pictures of the DBX prototype under test in various conditions have made headlines across the net and the ones that you see on this page are from the vehicle being put through an extensive winter test at Pirelli’s snow cold test track.
Despite the camouflage, you can make out that the DBX does have those quintessential Aston Martin design elements which carry over to the SUV stance rather well. It looks big, muscular and sporty and while there will be those who don’t agree, we think it is one mean looking machine that will do brisk business for the company.
Having said that, Aston Martin is leaving no stone unturned in terms of ensuring that the DBX lives up to being the ultimate Aston Martin both on and off the road. The DBX has been put through extensive testing including snowy roads, ice handling courses, dirt tracks, off-road courses and has also been evaluated for its towing ability. The extensive program has been conducted to ensure that this luxury SUV from Aston Martin lives up to its multi-purpose role.
Aston Martin is rather bullish about the DBX for it takes the high-end sports car brand into a bold new direction and literally allows an Aston Martin to go where no other product of theirs has ever been and we aren’t counting what 007 has done with some of them!
While Aston Martin has been rather tight-lipped about the engine that will power the DBX, we have reason to believe that they will most likely go in for their V-12 unit that delivers 715 hp. After all, the DBX will be going up against the Lamborghini Urus and to play in that league Aston Martin needs an engine that delivers more than the 600 hp that the Urus has! Aston Martin also has access to an AMG sourced V8 which could also be an option but that too is just speculation at this point.

The Aston Martin DBX will be built at the company’s St Athan plant in Whales which also happens to be the Lagonda facility and will also be the home to future electric cars from the brand, which also means that the DBX could also be offered with an electric drivetrain at some point. It is set to debut in 2020.
