NEW DELHI: Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh on Monday hit the headlines after advocating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should win the upcoming general elections.
"We all are BJP workers and we want the BJP to emerge victorious. We want that once again Modi ji should become the PM. It is important for the country," Singh said in Aligarh, according to news agency ANI.
Singh's remark raised several eyebrows as Singh who holds a constitutional position is not expected to have any political affiliations.
Singh was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1991-1992. In 2009 Lok Sabha polls, he was elected as an MP for Etah. Following the victory of BJP-led NDA in 2014 Lok Sabha polls, he was appointed as the governor of Rajasthan.
