“Karnataka has immense potential in adventure tourism and soon you will see many new products in this segment. I cannot give you more details at this point of time,” he said.
Speaking about important changes, he said that gone are the days when tourists used to focus only on two destinations – Bengaluru and Mysore. “Today tourists are looking beyond these destinations which clearly show that whole tourism eco-system has evolved significantly,” he said. According to him, Karnataka has witnessed new hotel inventory in the last few years. Many good projects have come up in places like Hampi, Hubli, Chikmagalur etc. “Between Coorg and Chikmagalur around 2,000 home stays have come up which clearly shows the state’s intent on tourism front,” he said.
Justifying the time of the roadshow, Hangal said that time is appropriate as the summer season is round the corner. He also said, “Maharashtra is one of the best feeder markets for Karnataka, be it hill stations, wild life or pilgrimage. This event is an effort to reach out to travel trade of Mumbai.” 25 exhibitors from different segments of tourism had participated in the roadshow.
Karnataka in its bid to attract more domestic and foreign tourists is organising Karnataka International Travel Expo from August 25-27, 2019, in Bengaluru this year. The organisers will host both domestic as well as foreign tour operators.
