How Does The BMW M2 Competition Perform Against Its M4 Sibling?

From the moment the BMW M2 was introduced, it’s been nipping at the heels of the larger M4.

The M4 may be larger and slightly more practical, but the M2’s reduced size also means it is perhaps just as fun as its older sibling. Now, BMW sells both the M2 and M4 in Competition forms and to see which is better, CarWow lined up the duo for a series of performance tests.

The pair of BMW sports cars first faced off in a drag race which, unfortunately, was impacted by heavy rain falling on the circuit. The slippery conditions meant the M2 Competition and M4 Competition both struggled to get off the line but, perhaps due to the M4’s added power, it spun its rear wheels even more and immediately fell behind the M2 Competition. However, the M4 was able to easily overtake the M2 as it started to pick up speed. A subsequent rolling drag race also saw the M4 come out on top but the race was very, very close.

In the second test, the two M cars ran around the circuit for a flying lap with a racing driver behind the wheel. The M4 Competition was the first out of the gates and set a lap of 1:41.32. The M2 Competition simply couldn’t match the performance of the M4 and came home with a best time of 1:43.24.

Last but not least was a drift off. Both cars are more than capable of getting sideways and are also quite controllable when driven on the limit so there’s no real winner here. If we had to choose, we’d probably prefer to be sliding around in the M2.
