KSEEB suspects laxity in implementing ban on mobile phones

Despite a slew of measures by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) to ensure that the ongoing SSLC examinations are conducted with minimal hassles, invigilators on exam duty appear to be negligent.

Over the last week, images of many Class Ten question papers were circulating on social messaging platforms after the commencement of the examination. On Monday, the mathematics question paper was being circulated on WhatsApp in Mysuru and Vijayapura.

“We have instructed officials to register a police complaint as the paper was circulated even before the examination ended,” an official from KSEEB said.

The board has, however, ruled out the possibility of the paper being leaked as the images were being circulated after the examination commenced.

Sources in KSEEB said that these incidents took place as the ban on mobile phones has not been strictly implemented. Last week, the board had directed that invigilators at examination centres also be frisked to ensure that they do not carry mobile phones inside the exam hall. This measure was adopted after a teacher at a high school in Sira taluk in Tumakuru district uploaded a question paper on a WhatsApp group for headmasters.

In an unrelated instance of malpractice, three mathematics teachers from Chikkodi district were suspended for allegedly helping SSLC candidates. Sources said the teachers prepared the answers and helped the students write the examination.
