HYDERABAD: A 24-year-old housewife set herself ablaze after an inebriated neighbour forcibly entered her house at Hayatnagar when she was alone on Saturday night. The victim, who was shifted to hospital with 90% burns, succumbed on Sunday morning at Gandhi Hospital.
The victim, Prashanthi Reddy, wife of an RTC bus driver, Ramesh Reddy, was reportedly alone at home at Sai Nagar Colony of Hayatnagar, while her husband was on duty on Saturday night. "Around 9pm, her neighbour Naresh knocked the door and entered her house. Seeing this, Naresh's wife Swathi also reached Prashanthi's house," said Hayatnagar inspector K Satish. Naresh, who was under the influence of alcohol, claimed he went to the wrong house.
The couple left the place, but after some time, Swathi returned and picked up a fight, suspecting her husband and Prashanthi were in a relationship. Soon after Swathi left, Prashanthi went to the kitchen, locked the door and set herself ablaze. Her house owner along with other neighbours broke open the door and doused the fire. "The victim gave her dying declaration, recorded in the presence of a magistrate. She said she got scared that Naresh entered her house without her knowledge and committed suicide," said the inspector. A case was registered against Naresh.
