Focus on booths that saw less than 50% turnout
TNN | Mar 25, 2019, 07:59 ISTNoida: The district election department has launched a campaign to increase polling percentage, especially in booths where lowest voting percentages had been recorded in the 2017 Assembly elections.
In 2017, 307 booths in Noida, 76 in Dadri and 18 in Jewar had recorded less than 50% polling. In Noida, the lowest polling in a booth was 24.95%. In Dadri, it was 20.56% and in Jewar, 32.99%.
District magistrate B N Singh said that some booths in urban areas and others in rural areas had recorded poor turnouts.
“We have launched an extensive awareness campaign and systematic voters’ education and electoral participation (SVEEP) programme in such places. Officials are holding meetings with village residents and RWA members. A weekly Raahgiri event is being held,” he said.
Data shows that booths in Chijarsi village, and sectors 1,2, 44, 52, 82 etc. recorded 30-40% polling in the last Assembly elections. Rajeev Tyagi, general manager, Noida authority, and SVEEP Nodal officer, said the efforts would increase voting percentage. “Officials are also informing voters to avail the helpline number, 1950,” he said.
