Curbs near Collector’s Office and Council Hall

PUNE: Joint Commissioner of Police Shivaji Bodkhe on Saturday passed orders banning public gathering and sloganeering outside government offices where candidates will file their nominations for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. 

The nomination for the upcoming elections will be accepted at Pune District Collectorate for Pune and Shirur constituencies and at Council Hall for Baramati constituency. The process of submission, verification and withdrawal of nomination papers for these three constituencies will take place between March 28 and April 12. 

The restrictions will be applicable in a 200-metre radius of the respective government offices. Only four persons per candidate will be allowed inside the government office for filing the nomination. Similarly, norms of noise pollution will be implemented in the area. 

The order stated that loudspeakers, sloganeering, public rallies or speeches will not be allowed in the area. Similarly, pamphlets and banners will not be allowed at these spots. Not more than three vehicles will be allowed to enter within 100 metres of these government offices during the period of filing of nominations. 

The order stated that the police will take action under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code in case of violation of the said order.
