Barely two days after the Karnataka Transport department suspended the licence of online cab aggregator Ola for six months in Bengaluru, it has been allowed to run its businesses as usual from today.

Priyank Kharge, Karnataka’s minister for social welfare, tweeted saying that Ola “will run their business as usual”.

“@Olacabs will run their business as usual from today. However there is an urgent need for policies to catch-up with new technologies & also industries too should work closer with Govt to help evolve policies for innovations,” Kharge wrote.

Kharge’s response came after several people took to Twitter questioning the ban and raised concerns regarding the livelihoods of the drivers who use the platform.

In a separate tweet, hours after the ban was put in effect, Kharge had responded to a tweet questioning the ban and had said that he was talking to the chief minister and that he would have it “resolved by tomorrow” and had said, “Our Govt will maintain a healthy balance between investors, industries, consumers & welfare within the ambit of law.”

The ban order from the Transport department, dated March 18, was issued to Ola operator ANI technologies on Friday, stating that its licence in Bengaluru was being cancelled for six months for violating conditions underwhich the permission was granted.

The order was issued for violating the Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules, 2016. It further said that the transport department had impounded several of Ola’s bike taxis over the last few months.

Ola had at that time termed the order as “unfortunate” and said it was evaluating all options to fin da solution.

“We have been closely working with the authorities on this topic, responding to queries and making proactive representations to the ministry,” Ola said in a statement.
