Pakistan breaches truce in J&K, jawan killed
Sanjay Khajuria | TNN | Updated: Mar 24, 2019, 23:18 ISTJAMMU: A day after being critically wounded during cross-border firing in J&K’s Poonch district, an Army jawan succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, even as Pakistan continued unprovoked firing and mortar shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.
“Grenadier Hari Bhakar was gravely injured when Pakistan violated ceasefire in Poonch on Saturday evening. He was shifted to the hospital where he succumbed on Sunday. His body was flown in from Poonch to Jaipur the same afternoon,” defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said. “A native of Rajasthan’s Makrana region, Bhakar is survived by his mother,” he added.
“Around 11.50am on Sunday, Pakistan again opened unprovoked fire and resorted to mortar shelling along the LoC in Rajouri’s Nowshera sector. Indian Army retaliated effectively to the attack,” Anand said.
Meanwhile, in Kathua district, one jawan died and another severely injured after an oven exploded inside the cooking area of an Army unit in Kalibari on Sunday.
Police said the blast took place around 11.30am, killing Naik Deepen Tawang on the spot while critically wounding Havildar Lal Parsad Gurung, who was shifted to the Pathankot military hospital for treatment.
Kathua police are probing the accident, believed to have been caused by a cylinder blast, sources said.
