AHMEDABAD: Bodies of a 27-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, their hands tied together with a handkerchief, were recovered from Sabarmati river by Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) personnel on Sunday morning near riverfront behind National Institute of Design (NID) in Paldi area of the city.
The man has been identified as Kamlesh Parmar, a resident of Khanusa village in Vankarvas of Vijapur taluka of Mehsana district who worked at a private firm in Vijapur, and the girl has been identified as Shweta Parmar, a resident of Danilimda area of the city. Both of them were unmarried. An official of Sabarmati Riverfront (West) police said that love affair seems to be the reason behind the extreme step.
“A passer-by spotted the bodies on Sunday morning after which he informed fire brigade about it. An AFES personnel fished out the bodies and then searched in the pocket of the man and found his aadhaar card,” said a fire official. Family of the man was informed about the death and they reached the spot on Sunday afternoon to claim the body. PSI V H Thakor, investigating officer of the case, said, “The couple had left their respective houses on Friday. One of the security guards of the riverfront on Friday had found the girl’s bag abandoned at riverfront walk way.”
The police have also found love letters written by the girl to the man from the bag which establishes that the man and the girl were in love for past one year. “The man came in contact with the girl when he used to meet his sister in Danilimda area of the city where the girl was staying in the neighbourhood. They might have developed liking for each other but, it seems, the families were not in favour of this relationship,” said an official.
Thakor said that the family members of the man and the girl did not speak anything on love angle.
