Ludhiana: An attempt to burgle a spare parts store in the Daba area proved fatal for a man, as he was electrocuted to death while trying to enter the store on Saturday morning.

Sources said the man, Pardeep Singh of Satguru Nagar, was trying to barge into the shop from the terrace when some commuters saw him and raised an alarm. In a bid to escape from the spot, the man jumped off the terrace, but got trapped in the electricity wires and died on the spot.

Inspector Bachan Singh, SHO, Daba police station, said the store was owned by Rupinder Singh of Daba area. Around 4am, Rupinder received a call from neighbours, who claimed that a man was trying to enter his shop for theft. However, when people raised an alarm the man jumped off the building and got electrocuted.

The police have begun proceeding under Section 174 of the CrPC in the matter.
