A sorry state of affairs
Goof ups by key departments can land officials in embarrassing situation at times.
This has been proved right in case of senior bureaucrat Anita Rajendra recently after a mix up by the General Administration Department. The senior IAS officer received a communication from the Election Commission intimating that she has been appointed as general observer for the ensuing Lok Sabha election. She had promptly reported to the Election Commission’s headquarters at New Delhi only to learn that the actual order issued by the Election Commission contained the name of another official from the State cadre Anita Ramachandran.
Incidentally, Ms. Anita Ramachandran is the returning officer for Bhongir Lok Sabha constituency and there is no scope of her being appointed as observer simultaneously. On being informed about the goof up, officials in the EC asked Ms. Anita Rajendra to contact the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer for further orders. She promptly addressed letter to the CEO’s office for “correct orders”.
Precious gift of love
What’s the most precious gift given to Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavita by her brother, TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao? Many may assume it to be quite a costly one like a diamond or some gold ornament.
Can you believe, if it is just a normal shirt? Well, Ms. Kavita herself revealed it during a conversation she had with The Hindu editorial team recently. It was gifted to her by her brother long back but she still cherishes as it was the first shirt she received. Brothers may forget the gifts but sisters don’t even if its worth is not much in terms of money. And Ms. Kavita was quite clear about it. “I don’t know whether he remembers or not but I cherish that gift,” she said with a glint in her eye.
Four days for festival of democracy
Normally, buses and trains departing Hyderabad for centres in Andhra Pradesh are packed ahead of festivals, particularly Sankranthi. This time round it is not going to be festivals but elections.
Like in Telangana, polling for Parliament elections in Andhra Pradesh is also scheduled on April 11 which falls on Thursday. Applying a day’s leave next day (Friday), employees and software professionals working in Hyderabad who want to vote in their native places in Andhra Pradesh have found a good reason to cosy up with their relatives back home for an extended holiday. They can now enjoy their second Saturday and Sunday holidays and come back after four days.
On the other hand, the Road Transport Corporations in both States have made arrangements to run special buses to meet the rush. Interestingly, all the seats in some of the 220 odd special buses deployed by Andhra Pradesh corporation are already reserved.
