Mohali cops seize 217 illicit liquor cartons, 20g heroin

MOHALI: With the election of code of conduct coming into effect, the crime investigating agency (CIA) of Mohali police have seized 217 cartons of liquor and 20gm heroin in four separate cases in a single night. Around 8 persons have been arrested in this connection.
Under SSP HS Bhullar's supervision, the surveillance teams of Mohali police intercepted vehicles at four different locations in the district and seized a total of 217 liquor cartons and 20gm heroin on the intervening night of March 22 and 23.
Bhullar said in the first incident, a team intercepted a canter at the airport road crossing on Zirakpur-Patiala highway. The vehicle was loaded with 200 cartons of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL). The canter was being driven by one Baldev Raj who revealed during interrogation that he had lifted the cartons from a Panchkula-based liquor vend and was transporting them to Ludhiana. Police said the driver has been booked under sections 61-1-14 of the Excise Act.
In the other case, Thana Sadar Kharar police arrested a three-wheeler driver along with two accomplices and seized 10 cartons of IMFL. The driver, identified as Jaswinder Singh, along with Rajpal and Sher Singh were intercepted following a tip-off. All the three accused were booked under sections 61-1-14 of the Excise Act.
In a similar incident, Thana Sadar Kharar police arrested Vickey Singh, Manoj Sharma and Tinu, who were riding on a two-wheeler and recovered 20gm heroin from their possession. Bhullar said they were drug addicts and used to sell drugs too. They have been booked under sections 21-61-85 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Lastly, the Derabassi police nabbed the driver of a Hyundai Verna car. On checking, the cops recovered 7 cartons of IMFL from the car. The driver, identified as Salinder Singh, has been arrested under sections 61-1-14 of the Excise Act.
