He started Lotus Lampshades more than 20 years back and sells variety of lamps with some made of beautiful handmade paper. The outlet finds clientele from the hospitality industry and has customers like Taj Hotels, Radisson Hotels, Hyatt, Marriott, to name few. It is associated with reputed chain stores as well as architects and interior designers  across India

  1. Why did you opt to start a business in Goa? 

I had visited Goa with my father in 2002 and kind of fell in love with this beautiful place and the people. Moreover there was a good demand for my product from the hotel industry a and the retail market was also Good.

 

  1. Your toughest task in setting up the business?

Initially it was difficult to find staff but today I have a very good team who have stood by me in all times and are more like a family now.

 

  1. Have you achieved all your goals? If not what remains to be done? 

I keep pushing myself by setting new goals. Well, that is what life is all about…to keep going. Goa has given me a lot and I wish to give back to the society in my own little ways. Yes, a lot remains to be done.

 

  1. Your best business moment. 

Each time I see a smile on the face of my satisfied customer, it is the best business moment.

 

  1. Most difficult period. How did you overcome it?

Of course there are ups and downs in business, but through strong family support, patience and perseverance, I am able to sustain. I believe in ‘Never Give Up’.

 

  1. How did you settle down and merge into the Goan lifestyle?

Oh, it wasn’t difficult. Goans, I must say, are very helping and welcoming people. I am here for the past 15 years and now I am a Goan myself.

 

  1. Customs or festivals that appeal to you. 

India is a land of festivals. I am a fun loving and a very traditional person from heart and love to celebrate festivals. I like the colors and the positivity each festival brings with it.

Goa’s own festivals like Viva Carnival, Shigmo, IFFI, Serendipity Arts Festival etc has a global appeal.

 

  1. State one aspect of Goa which has changed for better or worse? 

I love Goa the way it is. Goa is transforming in a very positive way and I see a very bright future for one and all in Goa.

 

  1. If not a businessman, what would you have chosen as a profession? Why? 

I would have been in IT industry, since I had a keen interest in computer programming.  But as destiny would have it, couldn’t pursue it. Today I feel it is all for the best. I am very happy with what I am doing – creating a pleasant ambience at homes, hotels and offices with lampshades .

A relaxed attitude and enjoyment of life to the fullest.
