The house
Moments from the sands of Avalon Beach in Sydney, this beach house has been made over into a glamorous haven. Every element, from each piece of recycled timber to the unique grouting between the tiles, was carefully chosen by meticulous owners.
Who lives here
OneTeaspoon fashion designer Jamie Blakey, her surf-commentator husband Ronnie, and their children Eddie, 13, Mickey, 7, and Minnie, 5.
What we did
"I wanted it to have a luxury feel – earthy, but high end," says Jamie, who designed the layout and supervised the renovation with Ronnie last year. "Nothing makes me happier than coming onto a work site – the sound of the drop saw, the smell of the timber …"
Favourite room
"I love all the rooms for different reasons, but the dining area is where we hang out the most."
The 'hood
"We have lots of friends in the area. Everyone is busy, so we all help each other out. It's all about community."
Future plans
"I'd love to do something interesting and fun in the stairwell. We've left it white for now."
Best advice
"My motto is 'breeze, north-facing and plants'. You never get sick when you have that combination."
