PATNA: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in her house under the Masaurhi police station area in Patna district on Saturday.
The girl’s father has lodged an FIR with Mausarhi police station against five of his co-villagers, accusing them of raping and killing his daughter. All the five accused are absconding.
Patna SSP Garima Malik said police have started an investigation into the incident. “We are waiting for the post mortem report. The incident is being probed from several angles,” the SSP said.
The girl’s father told police that the incident occurred when he had gone to Masaurhi to drop his nephew. “My brother called me and said at least 15 villagers attacked our house and fled with several valuables. After returning home, I found my daughter lying dead on the floor. My wife told me that she was gang-raped and killed by the attackers,” the girl’s father wrote in his complaint.
Meanwhile, police sources said a ligature mark on the neck of the girl, which is generally made by an item of cord, rope, silk or some such material for the purpose of strangulation, has raised suspicion over the incident. “Chances of the girl committing suicide cannot be ruled out,” the sources added.
“The villagers have told police that the girl was forced to marry a boy few days back after they were found in a compromising position. The boy’s family had thrashed and humiliated the girl,” the sources said.
Bike thief arrested: A patrolling team of Gandhi Maidan police station arrested one Bholu Pandey (20), who was fleeing after stealing a bike from gate number 10 of Gandhi Maidan on Sunday. SHO Sunil Kumar said the bike belonged to one Raushan Kumar, who was playing Cricket inside the ground.
“After Raushan and others raised an alarm, a patrolling vehicle chased the thief and arrested him near Ram Ghulam Chowk,” the SHO added.
