Leisure valley projects to take off only after polls
TNN | Mar 24, 2019, 07:09 ISTLudhiana: With the model code of conduct in place, residents of Ludhiana East and West assembly constituencies will have to wait until the end of the election for the development of much-hyped leisure valleys in their areas.
LIT officials had floated tenders, but they will have to wait until May-end before they can open these tenders. Already, for leisure valley in the West constituency, LIT has floated tenders for the third time, while for the East constituency, tenders were floated for the first time.
LIT executive engineer Boota Ram said they could not open the tenders due to imposition of the poll code. He said they would wait till the elections got over, but claimed that tenders for installation of static compactors had got approved.
The leisure valley in East constituency will provide a green space to the residents of wards number 6, 7, and 8. In these wards, there is no green space where people can go for morning or evening walks, or spend some leisure time. The land where a drain flowed is now dry, and so it is available for developing a leisure valley. However, a few encroachments are also coming in the way, which will be removed.
The leisure valley in West constituency will come up in BRS Nagar, and a long stretch — which was left in an abandoned condition — has been kept for it. Both projects for the city were announced on September 6, 2017 by the Congress government.
