Verna industries contribute generously to local schools

While the Verna Industrial Estate receives the maximum support from the government, its members look to be equally generous in giving back to the state. Unit owners are currently on a mission to enhance the life of the neighbouring villages by upgrading educational facilities in nearby local schools. Several members of the Verna industrial estate association (VIEA) last week distributed cheques to about nine schools towards financial support.

Damodar Kotchkar, president, said that, members are keen to upgrade the education standards of local schools by lending support for teacher training programmes, better computer labs, etc.

He said that, cheques were distributed under the CSR initiative of unit owners. “Many companies in the industrial estate undertake CSR activities but mostly the funds are sanctioned by the head office and  for projects outside the state. By our funding campaign we hope to encourage industries to contribute generously for local causes and especially better facilities for local schools.

The VIEA distributed cheques in the range of Rs seven lakh to schools. The highest amount donated was Rs 25 lakh by unit owners.
