PATNA: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headed by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced the name of candidates for three Lok Sabha seats - Kishanganj, Sitamarhi and Bhagalpur on Sunday. AAP leader Sanjay Singh who is Bihar in-charge tweeted that Alimuddin Ansari will be contesting from Muslim dominated Kishanganj constituency, Raghunath Kumar from Sitamarhi and Satyendra Kumar from Bhagalpur.

Sanjay’s tweet came after the nod from party’s political affairs committee (PAC). In previous general election held in 2014, AAP had contested on 39 out of 40 Lok Sabha constituencies in Bihar. Sources said, party was not in mood to contest from all the seats this time. “It is a fact that many of our candidate’s security was forfeited in previous election. Now we have changed our policy and have planned to fight the election with full strength on limited seats,” said Sanjay over phone to TOI.

Party’s Bihar additional in charge Ashutosh Singh Sengar told TOI a meeting will be held in Patna on Thursday with party workers and final decision on contesting on other seats will then be taken. Since the last date for filing nomination for first and second phase is March 25 and 26 respectively, it is for certain AAP will not be fielding its candidates from any of three constituencies- Nawada, Jamui and Gaya going to polls on April 11 in the first phase and Katihar, Purnia and Banka going to polls on April 18 in the second phase.

When asked about AAP fighting Lok Sabha election alone, though Kejriwal had been seen earlier with grand alliance(GA) leaders including Congress national president Rahul Gandhi and he had also expressed his desire to defeat NDA, but AAP’s fray into this battle without joining hands with GA may dent GA’s vote bank, Sanjay replied, “In Bihar we will be fighting alone. But our agenda is to defeat NDA and that is why we are not contesting on all the seats.”
