Three students from Mangaluru, who won 12 medals in the Special Olympics World Games held in Abu Dhabi, will be felicitated on Monday.
Talking to presspersons here on Friday, Vasant Kumar Shetty, administrator of Saanidhya Residential School, said that these three were among the five students from Karnataka part of the 284-member Indian contingent that took part in the Special Olympics held between March 14 and 22. India won 382 medals and 20 were bagged by students from Karnataka. Abhilash K., from Saanidhya Residential School, won three gold medals and a bronze medal.
Prajwal Lobo from the same school won three gold medals and a silver medal.
Ashley D’Souza from St. Agnes Special School bagged four bronze medals.
Nizamuddin from the St. Agnes Special School was in the football team which came fourth.
The felicitation will be conducted jointly by the two schools. The three medal winners and Mr. Nizamuddin will be taken in a procession from the KSRTC bus stand on Monday at 10 a.m.
The students will be felicitated at the Mangala Stadium. Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil S. and Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer R. Selvamani will participate.
District In-charge Minister U.T. Khader and the two MLAs from Mangaluru have been invited, Mr. Shetty said.
