Ludhiana rural police arrests 2 men after recovering 300 boxes of illicit liquor

LUDHIANA: In one of the major recoveries of illegal liquor in the election season in the Jagraon area, Ludhiana rural police on Sunday recovered 300 boxes of illicit liquor from a truck in Jagraon area. Police has arrested two liquor peddlers who were identified as Shubham Kumar of Jogi Colony, in Rajpura Town of Patiala District and Shail Kumar of Peer Colony of the same town.
Giving details, SSP Ludhiana rural Varinder Singh Brar said that they have started a special campaign for drug and crime free Ludhiana rural. He added that as part of that, a police party of the Ludhiana rural police got information from an informer about liquor peddling.
Police officials said that after the receipt of information, police party set up a check post on the road leading from village Aligarh to Kothe Khanjura and started checking vehicles and suspicious persons. They added that the police party saw a Canter (Truck) bearing Temporary registration number PB-11 (Temp) 1061 and signaled the driver to stop the vehicle on suspicion.
Cops said that on checking the vehicle, the police party recovered 300 boxes of “For Sale in Arunachal Pradesh” liquor from the Canter. They added that the accused were immediately taken into police custody after the recovery of illicit liquor.
SSP said that the accused were booked under sections 61/01/14 of Excise Act at City Jagraon police station and they were arrested. He added that the accused will be produced in the court and they will be further interrogated after obtaining their remand.
