CBSE class X board: Paper was easy, predictable & not too lengthy

Students who opted for English Communicative or English language and literature as one of their major subjects appeared for Central Board of Secondary Education board examination on Saturday. The three-hour paper carried 80 marks. Most students in city took English Communicative examination. This was the last batch of students attempting the subject, as CBSE discontinued English Communicative subject for class IX students from 2018-19 academic session.

“It was not too lengthy as expected in boards, so students had enough time to frame answers properly,” subject expert Deepa Kale said and added that paper was easy but section B had challenging questions. She said literature was easiest section for most students. Free Press talked to students for their views on examination.

Keshav Bhalika

“Examination was easy. Section A had questions straight from comprehension and could be easily found. Section B had questions, which were revealing. Section C had questions from literature. Most questions were from between chapters and NCERT.”

Hardik Jhawar

“Reading section was easy to understand and passages weren’t difficult. The question for writing an article was unexpected. Grammar was easy while literature section had previously solved questions and nothing was challenging in the paper.”

Aashka Zaveri

“The reading section was easy to solve. Both passages were informational and solvable. Grammar section wasn’t twisted though it included all aspects. Literature section focused more on understanding the true essence of chapters rather than facts. Exam was easy and could be completed within time limit.”

Soumya Khemani

“In section A, passages were very easy and informative. In section B, the topics of writing skills were unique and interesting. In section C, the questions of literature were very predictable.”
