NEW DELHI: The Special Cell of Delhi Police has busted an illegal gun-running module and recovered 25 pistols.
The module was being run like a wholesale market comprising several suppliers based in Mathura. Weapons from Munger, Khargone and Meerut were supplied to the market at the Nangla Utawar village, which were then delivered to the buyers at their doorsteps through delivery boys. A manhunt has been launched to nab the kingpins of the racket, who were running it from several other villages in UP.

DCP (special cell) Pramod Kushwah said that one of the delivery boys, Kehri (25), was caught along with 25 pistols in a bag near a mall in Karkardooma. “The team that was tracking the consignments took position in disguise and caught him when he was waiting to meet someone,” said DCP Kushwah.

During interrogation, Kehri revealed that he was a resident of Mathura and came in contact with the arms dealers who offered a handsome payout to him. He started procuring weapons from Khargone on behalf of the dealers and delivered them to suppliers in Delhi.

Probe revealed that the module was being run by a handful of people who had shops in villages near Mathura. Once the orders were placed, the weapons were either supplied from their stocks or would be forwarded to the manufacturers with the specifications.

“We have identified the source and receivers and are conducting raids to nab them as well,” said DCP Kushwah. Cops suspect that the kingpins of the racket are operating from the Mewat in Haryana.
