District Election Officer T.G. Vinay has directed officials to issue notice to all the absentees (teachers and other staff members), who did not turn up for the poll-related training sessions for Lok Sabha and by-elections here on Sunday.
The district, which is conducting election to the Lok Sabha and by-poll for Nilakottai Assembly constituency, has posted a little over 10,000 staff on poll duty at different levels of responsibilities.
For this purpose, training was being conducted at each centre. While an officer said that a majority of the staff assigned for poll duty were present, those who had not turned up would be issued notices seeking explanations. In fact, the Collector had directed officials to take disciplinary action, the official added.
Meanwhile, the Collector made a surprise visit to Thomayarpuram check-post in Dindigul and Vakkampatti check-post on the Batlagundu Road here late on Saturday night.
A private mofussil bus from Bodi was transporting cardamom in huge quantities. However, after verifying the documents, the officials let the vehicle go. Similarly, private vehicles were also intercepted at check posts at random.
The district, which has 48 different teams, including static surveillance and flying squad (comprising six members each), has assigned a team exclusively for Kodaikanal hill station. The Collector has been conducting a periodic review with senior officials and interacting with the squads in-charge of the election control room among others, a press release said.
Public can lodge complaints through the cVIGIL and on the toll-free number on any illegal acts and the information would be kept confidential. The officials would respond to the complainant within a reasonable time on the action taken without seeking the names of the complainant.
According to the officials, the district had received 302 complaints so far through the toll-free - 1950, cVIGIL: and through the toll free number (18004255965), six complaints had been received.
Through the static surveillance and other flying squads, a sum of ₹14.14 lakh had been seized from Athoor, Nilakottai, Palani and other locations. All the vehicles, fitted with GPS facilities, are being monitored from the specially installed control room. Persons, who have proper documentary evidence may approach the Project Director (DRDA) at the Collectorate and take back the seized goods, including cash, the officials added.
