‘Freedom of expression does not exist for people like Sofia’

Responding to the comments of BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan who said that Kanimozhi had the freedom of speech to speak whatever she wants, MP Kanimozhi on Saturday said that the freedom does not exist for the common people, citing the Lois Sofia incident.

“I am not speaking about my freedom of expression. I have the backing of a large organisation, the DMK,” she said. “Ask (Lois) Sofia about freedom of expression."

She also said that journalists like Gauri Lankesh, who voiced their dissent, were killed.

Addressing a gathering of party functionaries, she said that steps would be taken to improve the V.O.C Port and to ply international flights from Thoothukudi airport, and to set up a food park at Pottalurani.

She said that Karunanidhi respected people of all religions and kumbabishekams of a number of temples were performed during the DMK regime.

Speaking to members of the fishermen community in Threspuram, the DMK leader said that diesel subsidy, compensation during trawling ban period would be given properly if elected.

A number of projects like Methane and Hydrocarbon extraction projects, NEET exam are being imposed up on the people, she said.

“The current government did not do anything to improve the drinking water supply, battered roads and to create employment,” she added.

MLA P. Geetha Jeevan, TNCC vice-president A.P.C.V Shanmugam, district secretary of Congress C.S. Muralitharan, district secretary of CPI(M) K. S. Arjunan and other alliance party leaders were present.
