A rescue operation off the west coast of Norway.... As some 1,300 passengers and crew found themselves stranded aboard a luxury cruise ship on Saturday...caught in stormy weather... Police and rescue workers said the Viking Sky suffered engine failure and sent out a mayday signal as it drifted towards land.
The crew was eventually able to restart one engine, the maritime rescue service said.... Adding that the ship was now anchored about a mile away from land - and that the passengers were considered safe.... ...though at least eight of those evacuated suffered minor injuries.
The rescue service said only 87 people had been evacuated by early evening...and that the airlift was set to continue through the night.
