PDOs, GP secretaries in Gokak defy ZP CEO’s order
Ravindra Uppar | Mar 24, 2019, 04:34 ISTBelagavi: Gokak is always a vulnerable taluk for elections as the Election Commission identifies the maximum number of sensitive polling booths, be it during assembly elections or Lok Sabha elections. Gokak taluk is once again in the news after gram panchayat officials allegedly refused to follow the instructions of the election commission.
A week ago, ZP CEO and SVEEP committee chairman Rajendra KV had passed an order cancelling the deputations of all panchayat development officers (PDOs), first and second grade panchayat secretaries and second divisional assistants (SDAs). He had told them to report to their original gram panchayats within three days.
In case of vacancy, he had instructed local taluk panchayat CEOs to give additional charge to nearby panchayat PDOs or secretaries. The order has implemented in all taluks barring Gokak.
According to reliable sources, 27 PDOs, 18 grade-1 and grade-2 panchayat secretaries and five SDAs have been working on deputation within the taluk. They were supposed to report to their original GPs but have not. Besides, a PDO and four SDAs who were on deputation out of the taluk were also supposed to join their original GP in Gokak taluk. They too have not returned to their original posting.
One of the PDOs said all the deputations of GP level in Gokak taluk have been held under political influence. The workers on deputation are not going to report at their original GPs despite the orders owing to the blessings of local politicians. The ZP CEO must take strict action without bowing to political pressure, he told TOI.
When asked, Rajendra said he had not verified if his order had been implemented, adding that he would do the needful and also instruct the taluk panchayat CEO to take appropriate action.
