Mistake-riddled Stormers go down to Hurricanes

    2019-03-23 10:26

Cape Town - The Stormers have got their Australasian tour off to a losing start when they went down to the Hurricanes in Wellington on Saturday.

As it happened: Hurricanes v Stormers

The Hurricanes won 34-28 after trailing 21-15 at half-time.

The Hurricanes scored five tries through prop Ben May, wing Wes Goosen (2) and the Barrett brothers, centre Jordie and flyhalf Beauden. Beauden Barrett was also on target with three conversions and a penalty.

The Stormers, who were left to rue some woeful kicking out of hand throughout the match by various culprits, replied with three tries of their own by flank Siya Kolisi, hooker Bongi Mbonambi and replacement loose forward Jaco Coetzee. Wing SP Marais added two conversions and three penalties.

The Hurricanes picked up four points for their victory, but stayed second in the New Zealand Conference and fourth in the Overall standings.

The Stormers left with a single point for losing by seven or fewer points, and moved to the top of the South African Conference and second in the Overall log.

In next weekend's Round 7 action, the Hurricanes welcome the Crusaders to Wellington in what promises to a humdinger of a clash (Friday, March 29 at 08:35 time), while the Stormers travel to Auckland to face the Blues (Saturday, March 30 at 08:35).
