Mumbai: 17-year-old student dies after his head hits an electric pole while leaning out of train

In a shocking incident, on Friday a 17-year-old student died after his head hit on an electric pole while leaning out of a train. The student later fell off the train and was run over by the same train.

According to Hindustan Times, the incident took place on Friday when the 17-year-old  was leaning out of a Panvel-bound train, near Dockyard Road station. The 17-year-old was identified as Zuber Siddique Shaikh. Shaikh was returning to his house in Wadala after he appeared for SSC exams last paper. While returning he went to the mosque to offer Friday prayers and was returning with four of his friends.

Shaikh and his four friends boarded the general compartment of a Panvel-bound train at 2.30pm. After boarding the train the boys started leaning out of the train while it was in motion. A GRP official told the leading daily, “When the train was about to reach Dockyard Road Station, Shaikh’s head hit the electric pole between two tracks and he fell down. As he fell, he came under the train and his right hand was crushed.”

After Shaikh fell off his friends raised an alarm and other commuters alerted the GRP. The GRP officials rushed to the spot and found Shaikh dead. When the GRP officials reached the spot they found that Shaikh’s right hand was cut off and he suffered major injuries as the train had crushed his body.

Later Shaikh was rushed to nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The GRP has registered a case of accidental death (ADR) and are investigating the case.
