Katti was defeated at Chikkodi in the last Lok Sabha election and is one of the strong aspirants of a BJP ticket. Senior party leader Annasaheb Jolle and Rajya Sabha member Prabhakar Kore to are major aspirants. BJP is delaying announcing its Chikkodi candidate due the high number of aspirants.

When Katti’s name was misiing from BJP’s first list of candidates, Shashikant Roloji, 29 of Sankeshwar called his leader over phone and said he would commit suicide if the party denies a ticket to Katti. Katti recorded the call and uploaded it on social media.

“You must be our MP. A large number of voters in the constituency love you and will vote for you. We don’t want Annasaheb Jolle. You should win. The country is our first priority,” Roloji told Katti during the call. Lakhs of voters in Athani and Raibag taluks too want Katti to get the ticket, he added.

Katti tried to convince him not to take any extreme step. “I am in Bengaluru now and am trying my best. I will succeed in getting the ticket, don’t worry. Pray for me to your family deity”, Katti told his supporter.
