Vadodara: Baroda Lions Club Education Trust (BLCET) and the Mahavir Foundation Trust (MFT) have joined hands to implement a unique project — Kayakalp — for bright, meritorious students belonging to low-income families.
The two trusts have signed an MoU to ensure that such students do not lag behind in achieving success at secondary and higher secondary examinations due to financial constraints.

The project will be jointly implemented by the trusts at Baroda High School (Gujarati medium) at Danteshwar from academic year 2019-20.

BHS Danteshwar will launch science stream at HSc level to implement the project through which more than 300 bright students who have secured 70% or above marks in their preceding examination and whose family income is less than Rs 2 lakh per annum will be admitted to the school in standards IX to XII in addition to regular students, the trusts announced on Saturday.

Students will be selected irrespective of any caste, religion or other social differences.

“We will be providing a totally free-of-charge intensive coaching for three hours every day after school timings through qualified faculties so that such students achieve success at SSC and HSc examination and can secure admission in professional programmes like engineering, medicine, pharmacy, architecture, among others,” MFT’s president Dr B C Jain said.

The school premises will be offered free-of-charge by BLCET. A substantial part of school fees of such students and full cost of their uniform, study materials, kits, stationery and transportation will be borne by MFT.

“Full scholarship will be given to students who are from extremely needy families. Students enrolled under the project will also be provided nutritious lunch in the school at subsidized rates,” said BLCET president Jagdish Shukla.

The project also includes sessions for personality development, development of English communication skills, special counselling and capacity development for girl students under the ‘smart girl’, free health check-ups and health-related initiatives.

The future plan includes free-of-charge skill development and vocational training programmes for other students from economically weaker sections to make them employable.
