Five cars gutted as container truck catches fire on Kanpur-Lucknow road
tnn | Mar 24, 2019, 04:38 ISTKanpur: Five cars loaded in a container truck were gutted in fire on Kanpur-Lucknow national highway under the limits of Ajgain police station of Unnao district on Friday night. No causality was reported as the driver and cleaner managed to escape in time. Traffic on the highway, however, remained affected for nearly three hours.
Truck driver Indraveer and cleaner Shivam of Etah were on their way to deliver a consignment of eight cars to Nepal from Haryana. When the reached near Sonik turn in Unnao, they noticed smoke billowing out of the closed container,” SP Unnao MP Verma said. They immediately alerted Dial 100, which in turn apprised the fire department, SP said.
“Fire personnel along with fire tender arrived at the site and doused the fire, but by then five of the eight cars loaded in the container were gutted in fire. Three remaining cars were removed from the container truck safely,” SP added. The incident led to massive chaos on Kanpur-Lucknow highway and traffic was thrown out of gear for nearly three hours. “Traffic was normalised only after the burnt truck was removed from the mishap site with the help of powerful cranes,” said a police officer.
