Bhopal: Finally, former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijay Singh is entering into Lok Sabha election arena from the Bhopal seat. After the current Chief Minister, Kamal Nath announcing Digvijay’s name, it is certain Singh has no other way to escape from the upcoming election now. Nath said Digvijay is being launched to break the myth the Congress never launches strong candidate in Bhopal.
Presently, the BJP has in its kitty five of the eight seats under the Bhopal constituency while the Congress has three seats under its belt. The reason Digvijay gave his consent to contest from the Bhopal seat is the equation of Muslim and Sindhi voters. Singh hopes he would also get votes of govt employees.
As far as voters are concerned, there are 20 lakh voters in the Bhopal LS constituency. They include 4 lakh Muslims and 70,000 Singhs. Singh hopes to get votes of both the communities. Among ministers, Diggy has support from PC Sharma and Arif Aqueel. Also, there are leaders who staunchly back Diggy. Minister PC Sharma said the Congress won against BJP in the last Assembly poll in Bhopal by over 50,000 votes. Sharma said the victory margin would up with Singh in the poll fray.
BJP planning afresh, Shivraj leading name
BJP has also changed its strategy on Bhopal seat with Digvijay Singh entering into the fray. The saffron party now plans to give ticket to a high-profile leader. The name of former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has come up with Digvijay’s name doing the rounds, although, Chouhan maintains he would accept whatever his party commands. There are speculations over Chouhan contesting from the Vidisha LS seat. Chouhan may be launched from Bhopal to challenge former CM Digvijay Singh. The RSS is also coming in poll-mode with Digvijay’s entry. Digvijay, among the party circle, is known to be the biggest rival of the RSS.
