Bhubaneswar: Three coaches of Puri-Hatia Tapaswini Express were damaged after fire broke out in S4 coach of the stationary train at Puri station on Friday. As it was an empty train, no casualty was reported.
The train arrived at its destination (Puri station) at around 8 am. It was kept at the station for cleaning purpose. At 12.55 pm, fire broke out at S4 coach, said railway sources. The station staff, railway protection force (RPF) and fire brigade swung into action to douse the fire. They took more than an hour to control the blaze.

East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources said S4 coach was badly damaged, while S3 and S5 were partially affected in the incident. Station staff separated airconditioned (AC) and other coaches from S6 onwards to stop spread of fire as part of standard operating procedure.

Senior officers from Bhubaneswar rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. “Reason of the fire is yet to be known. After proper inquiry by experts, cause of fire can be ascertained,” said J P Mishra, chief spokesperson of the ECoR.

Government Railway Police (GRP) has started investigation into the matter after registering a case. “We have detained two persons, suspecting their involvement in the accident,” said a senior GRP officer.

The ECoR ran the train as usual by adding three more coaches to it.

On November 11, 2015, fire had damaged four coaches of three empty express trains in Puri. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) stepped in after Odisha police found suspected terror link behind the fire. Later, NIA had ruled out terror link in the serial burning of the trains.
