The polling to Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Srikakulam Teacher constituency of the Legislative Council went off peacefully on Friday.
Voters caste their franchise at 123 polling stations set up in the three north coastal Andhra districts from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Vizianagaram recorded the highest poll percentage of 90.61 % followed by Srikakuam (90.39 %) and Visakhapatnam (87.81 %).
The total polling recorded was 89.6 %, Returning Officer and District Collector K. Bhaskar said. The electorate in the three districts was 19,593. At the booth set up at V.S. Krishna Government College, brisk polling was witnessed in the morning. Counting will be taken up at Swarna Bharati Indoor Stadium on March 26.
The contestants include Gade Srinivasulu Naidu, Adari Kishore Kumar, Uppada Neelam, Gadi Balagangadhar Tilak, Nookala Surya Prakash, Pakalapati Raghu Varma, Palavalasa Sreenivasa Rao and Balakrishna Jannela.
Man arrested
Meanwhile, the City Task Force personnel arrested a person for selling liquor in violation of the prohibitory orders in force for the MLC polls at Gandigundam area. R Srinu (28), a resident of Gummadivanipalem, was arrested during a raid on his wine shop at Gandigundam. The police had seized 80 -180 ml liquor bottles.
