Actor Akshay Kumar’s latest film, Kesari has registered another good day at the box office. The film collected Rs 16 crore on Friday, taking its total to Rs 37.7 crore in two days.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures on Saturday. “#Kesari is solid on Day 2... Decline on a working day - after a holiday - is common, but the decline is less this time... Will score big numbers on Day 3 and 4... Is chasing a huge total in its *extended weekend*... Thu 21.06 cr, Fri 16.70 cr. Total: Rs 37.76 cr. India biz,” he wrote in his tweet. Kesari has already registered the best opening day of 2019, defeating Total Dhamaal and even Gully Boy.

Adarsh expects the film to also record the best opening weekend of the year. “#Kesari aims at No. 1 spot as far as *opening weekend* is concerned... Trending better than #GullyBoy and #TotalDhamaal... Will surpass *extended weekend* [Thu-Sun] of #GullyBoy [Rs 72.45 cr] as well as *traditional weekend* [Fri-Sun] of #TotalDhamaal [Rs 62.40 cr],” he wrote in his tweet.

Filmmaker Karan Johar, who has co-produced the film, tweeted: “Gratitude for the abundant love for our film Kesari”. Directed by Anurag Singh, Kesari is based on the historic Battle of Saragarhi in 1897.

The North-West Frontier Province (now Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan), saw 21 Sikhs of the 36th Sikh Regiment (now the 4th Battalion of the Sikh Regiment) of British India, defending an army post against more than 10,000 Afghan and Orakzai tribesmen.
