Political leaders take on BJP over attack on Muslim family in Gurugram

Senior leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress took a shot at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the alleged attack on a family of Muslims, which left 12 of a family injured.

Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad accused the BJP of creating an environment of “hatred.”

“Every patriotic Indian is disgusted by the video of a family in Gurugram being mercilessly beaten by hooligans. The RSS/BJP channelises bigotry and hatred for political power. This incident serves as a warning of the dangerous consequences and the dark side of that strategy,” Congress president Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday condemned the attack. “Whatever happened at the residence of Mohammad Sajid is beyond imagination. The political leaders who are behind such incidents are unable to understand that hatred is such avenom that will destroy everything,” he tweeted in Hindi.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday targeted PM Narendra Modi. In a tweet, Kejriwal said, “Hitler bhi satta ke liye yahi karta tha. Hitler ke gunde logo to pitte the, unka khoon karte the aur police jinhe mara, unhi ke khilaaf case karti thi (Hitler also used to do this for power. Hitler’s goons used to beat up people, kill them, and police registered cases against those who were assaulted).”

A delegation of Delhi BJP leaders met the Delhi chief electoral officer to complain against Kejriwal’s tweet. BJP MLA Vijender Gupta, the leader of the opposition in the Delhi Assembly, said, “Delhi CM Kejriwal, through his official Twitter handle, has shared a video of an incident of beating in Gurugram District of Haryana and has provoked through his social media handle…The incident of beating against which an appropriate action has been taken by the District Administration of Gurugram, has been misused by CM Kejriwal to give it a religious colour to provoke the feelings of the two communities.”
