One of the two bears that killed a 38-year-old farmer and injured five others was killed by angry villagers on the outskirts of Sasalakunte village in Pavagada taluk of Tumakuru district on Friday.
Veeranjaneya, 38, of Sasalakunte had ventured out into a field when he was attacked by two bears and killed. Villagers went to the spot on hearing his cried for help. They were also attacked, and the injured persons were admitted to Pavagada taluk government hospital.
The two bears sat beside the body till 12 p.m. They attacked anybody who went near the body of Veeranjaneya. Later, they went away.
Later, enraged villagers went looking for them. They spotted one and killed the animal. They handed over the carcass to Forest Department personnel.
A case has been registered in Arsikere police station.
