Jawan who shot himself laid to rest

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The body of 25-year-old army jawan, Vishakh Kumar, who allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at the Infantry Camp in Jamnagar, was laid to rest at his ancestral house at Bharathannoor under Pangode police station limits outside the city on Thursday.

Vishakh Kumar had allegedly shot himself with his service rifle, Insas, while on duty around 10.15 pm on Tuesday night.

The body was brought to his ancestral house on Thursday night after completing procedures, including postmortem, and the burial was held soon after.


He is the son of Puushothaman and Sulabha of Girija Bhavan, Thrikkovilvattom, Bharathannoor.


Sources close to his family said that he allegedly committed suicide soon after having a conversation with his wife on phone. They got married only a few weeks ago.


A probe is already on by the local police at Jamnagar to find out the circumstances that led to his death.
